Executive Energy: How to get it & How to keep it (Summary)

Summary of reasons for an executive’s lack of energy and enthusiasm:

  • Lack of confidence in your ability
Review your resume and remind yourself of your strengths
Review your resume and remember why they hired you
Review your resume and re-write it with latest accomplishments
  • Fear of failing (again)
People that don’t fail don’t do anything. Set fears aside and go to work.
Review failures not for what you should have done but for what you will do next
    Courageous people attract more followers.
  • Identifying priorities
Identify and discuss your priorities with your board chair on a regular basis
Identify priorities with your mentor(s) (if you have a poor board chair)
Always ask yourself what key leaders would do next if working at your desk
  • Not enough time
We all have exactly the same amount of time each day, month and year
Time management doesn’t work; only time leadership works
    Go back and keep prioritizing
  • Lack of incentives
Review your original application for this job and what you agreed to for incentives
Study and ask why you said yes then but are saying “no” now.
  • Lack of your interest
If you’re not interested, the membership probably isn’t either (This may be a good sign)
This should/could be the most exciting day of your career…
Go after it like it’s a brand new job!
